In our contemporary humanistic American culture, which glorifies individual liberty and deifies the self, trust in God’s provision is quickly diminished with messages of self-reliance, and attempts to evangelize are quickly labeled arrogant cultural imperialism. So how do we continue loving our God, loving our neighbors, and following Christ, in light of these obstacles? How do we navigate deep love for the lost, when the faith which we bear, carries such negative cultural connotations? In today's episode of The Next Level, Kelly, John, and Janet tackle difficult questions like: what does salvation look like for those who do not hear the gospel? And How do we engage our faith with our nation's politics? Search "Glen Ellyn Bible Church" on iTunes or Google Play to tune-in and listen.

Happy Father’s Day Church. Today, we have a special service as we rededicate our building and celebrate the completion of our new welcome space! @ Glen Ellyn Bible Church
In a post-religious culture wherein idols look less like small wooden figures or gleaming golden calves, how do we discern what may be detouring our worship and service to God? The idol of happiness? The idol of independence and autonomy and of self-governance? Yesterday on the Next Level podcast, we had a lot of difficult questions. Thank you to all the listeners and church members who have the courage and trust to give voice to these questions. We hope that we treat you with love and respect during our discussions.
Unfortunately, due to the extensive rain we've had this Spring, Lake Ellyn Park is unusable for our Worship in the Park service on June 2. Services will be back at 501 Hillside Ave at 9am and 10:30am.
Save the dates for this year's Summer Nights' titled: "Share" We'll be meeting on Tuesday nights in July: The 9th, 16th and 23rd, at 6:30p!
Throwback to Children's Ministry Circa ~ 1945! With all of this construction and change at our church, we are so thankful to have had a church community that cares deeply about their children.
Happy Wednesday GEBC! If you ever find yourself needing the spirit but don't know how to articulate it, remember these encouraging words from Romans 8:26, which we'll be reading more this Sunday: "Likewise the Spirit helps us in our weakness. For we do not know what to pray for as we ought, but the Spirit himself intercedes for us with groanings too deep for words."
Are you excited for Worship in the Park? Save the date: June 02,10am at Lake Ellyn. And there's still time to consider being baptized! "But now you have arrived at your destination: By faith in Christ you are in direct relationship with God. Your baptism in Christ was not just washing you up for a fresh start. It also involved dressing you in an adult faith wardrobe—Christ’s life, the fulfillment of God’s original promise." - Galatians 3:25-27, (The Message Translation)
Yesterday morning, we took a moment to celebrate and share a photo update on our construction progress! Here's what it looks like if you missed worship :)
This year at Worship in the Park we'll be having Baptisms again! One of Jesus’ final commands involved baptizing those who committed to following him. Baptism is a powerful demonstration of God’s redemptive work and the ongoing transformation in our life. Jesus’ own baptism confirms it's an essential component of any Christian life. If you’ve decided to follow Jesus but never been baptized, now is the time to take your next step and be baptized. For more information contact Grant Armstrong.
Two weeks ago, from Friday April 26 to Sunday April 28, our church hosted the Glen Ellen Community as they worked to pack food for Feed My Starving Children. This year we were able to pack a total of 279,936 meals! So, from all of us here at GEBC, thank you to all of those who helped out and gave their time! It was such a blessing.
Need a date-night? Help support our Student Mission Teams and drop off your kids for Parents Nite Out: this Friday May 17, from 5:30 to 8:30p.
An essential focus of Jesus' ministry, was his relationship with people on the outside margins of community. As a church, we seek to follow in this example. If you're looking for an opportunity to serve with those you know, and grow in relationship with those you don't know yet, consider volunteering with our caregiving center. Our next serve is tomorrow night :)
“I think that too is where community becomes really important. Are we having regular confession with each other? I think when I’ve gone through things that I don’t want to tell anybody…When I’m in the dark, Satan loves things that are in the dark, but when I can go to my sister, when I can go to somebody and tell them what I don’t really don’t want to share, then it’s in the light, then it’s in God’s light, and the spirit can work.” - Elizabeth Masching, on today's Podcast of "The Next Level"
It is no mistake that the savior of the world needed a mother, and it is no mistake that we need mothers too. To all the women out there who have shown us true motherly love: thank you! Today we honor, appreciate, and celebrate, all of the ways that we've experienced Christ, through the gift of your motherly love in our lives. You are a blessing!
